Sharon could hardly believe her eyes- if what she was reading was accurate, this was an historical document she shouldn’t even have been touching. The proper thing would be to take it directly to the historical society and hand it over to people who could handle it properly, to ensure it was preserved for future generations.

Instead, she was crouched in her dank basement, flipping through it eagerly while Seymour looked on.

The earliest entries were dated to December 1876, and while they were fascinating from an academic perspective, they weren’t all that enlightening for the purpose of detailing the daily lives of Bonnebelle and her family. The entries surrounding young Edgar, in particular, sent a pang through Sharon’s chest, knowing what would eventually happen to the boy, and so she skimmed over them.

Finally, around ten pages in, Sharon found an entry that caught her eye.
